It is an anniversary of Kunio Yanagita who is father of the folklore of Japan today. In his famous "Tono story", a husband met the soul of his wife who died of the tsunami caused in Sanriku Coast in the night. She turned and smiled when the name was called. However, the wife said that she married a man who died of the tsunami.
When he asked her, "Isn't the child lovely?" , she changed the face and wept.
And, she left at a quick pace and disappeared. I was stifling when I thought of painful of man though it was a wonderful short chapter.
Yanagida often walked in the Sanriku shore. I hear that the surviving person grandly burnt firewood in a certain village at night overcome by the tsunami at the Meiji era. He wrote down in other story that there were many persons who swam from the sea aiming at the fire in the dark.
Time flows, and this summer becomes the first bon festival for the victims of the tsunami at the Heisei era. The fire that welcome the soul will be burnt everywhere. They go home, and the all of family meet again. It is time when several days from the receiving fire to farewell fires deepens most Japanese passion.
Person's life and the person's death have the meaning only in the nature and the community which embrace people. However, it is destroyed, and we has trodden on the accelerator in the direction where the connection is severed in recent years. It asks renewing the crime in the summer after the earthquake as the Isao. The distinguished services and the crime are asked again in the summer after the earthquake.
Returning to "Tono story", the husband who lost sight of wife's soul had returned and got sick for a long time. Person's mind doesn't change even if the age changes. We can see something to consider in the sad sight.
